Jayne Beske

Members of the Big Canoe Writers are saddened by the loss of  Jayne Beske. Since 2002 she has been a steadfast member the Writers Group and keeper of our scrapbook.  Jayne wrote sensitive nature poetry and enthusiastic narratives of her travels.

Jayne died at age 72, after a long and heroic battle with cancer on March 24, 2013.  She was born  and raised in Minnesota and received a B.S. in nursing from the University of Minnesota.  She and Alan met at the university and she worked as a nurse while he completed graduate school.  Jayne and Alan lived in numerous states due to corporate transfers, and relocated to Roswell, Georgia, in 1984.  They moved to Big Canoe in 2002.

Jayne’s nursing positions were in pediatrics, intensive coronary care, schools, and hospice, and she served as a volunteer nurse for ten years at the Good Samaritan Health and Wellness Center in Jasper, Georgia.  She was very active in her children’s school activities and the Fulton County Supporters of the Gifted.  For many years she coordinated the PTA’s annual creative arts Reflections program in north Fulton County.

While living in Big Canoe, Jayne loved to play golf and go on hikes.  She was a member of the Big Canoe Chapel, Writers Group, Women’s Guild , Ridgerunners, and the Wildflower Bunch.  She was a talented pianist and poet.  She loved to travel with Alan and her family and went on mission trips to Jamaica, Nicaragua, and Bay St. Louis, Mississippi.

Survivors include her husband, Alan; daughter, Heather Beske of Cookville, Tennessee; daughter, Melissa Beske of New Orleans, Louisiana; daughter, Shannon Grice, her husband Bill Grice, and their sons Connor and Hunter of Johns Creek, Georgia; and sister, Gail Dominski of St. Paul, Minnesota.

A memorial service and celebration of her life was held on Thursday, March 28,  at the Big Canoe Chapel in Big Canoe.  The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, any donations may be made to the Good Samaritan Health and Wellness Center of Jasper (706) 253-4673.
